چکیده

This paper discusses the use of endosseous implants in irradiated bone. The success rate of endosseous implants in irradiated bone is reviewed and controversy over optimal time prior to implant placement is described. The advantages and disadvantages of preand postimplant radiotherapy are addressed. Implant therapy and osteoradionecrosis (ORN) and evidence of potential role of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) are also reviewed. Strategies for improving the clinical outcome of endosseous implants are suggested.

Endosseous implant and autogenous bone graft reconstruction of mandibular discontinuity: a 12-year longitudinal study of 31 patients.

Surgical, medical, and prosthodontic records of 61 consecutively treated patients with mandibular discontinuity were reviewed retrospectively. All 61 patients had undergone discontinuity reconstruction with autogenous bone grafts; 31 of 61 had also received endosseous dental implants and a dental osseoprosthesis. Of these 31 implant-reconstructed patients, 23 had free autogenous nonvascularized...

Development of oral and extra-oral endosseous craniofacial implants by using a mesh structure for connective tissue attachment.

Connective tissue attachment to a mesh structure incorporated on the surface of oral implants and extra-oral endosseous craniofacial implants (EOECI) was investigated. Two types of implants were prepared: TI and TI-Mesh. TI was composed of an upper and a lower component, both comprised of a titanium cylinder, which could be connected using a titanium screw. The composition of the TIMesh was sim...

Effect of Nd:YAG, Ho:YAG, Er:YAG, CO2, and GaAIAs laser irradiation on surface properties of endosseous dental implants.

PURPOSE To analyze potential surface alterations in endosseous dental implants induced by irradiation with common dental lasers. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sandblasted and acid-etched, plasma-sprayed, hydroxyapatite-coated, and smooth titanium discs were irradiated using Nd:YAG, Ho:YAG, Er:YAG, CO2, and GaAIAs lasers at various power settings. The specimens were examined by scanning electron micro...

Developing Keratinized Mucosa Around Nonsubmerged Dental Implants. Part II: The Use of Non-Vascularized Soft-Tissue Grafts

The original protocol for the placement of endosseous dental implants required a fully submerged positioning beneath the oral soft tissues. This method necessitated a second surgical procedure to facilitate abutment connection and subsequent restoration (Branemark, 1985). It has been observed that the second surgical procedure could reduce or eliminate the amount of keratinized mucosa in the pe...

Influence of Deformation and Stress between Bone and Implant from Various Bite Forces by Numerical Simulation Analysis

Endosseous oral implant is applied for orthodontic anchorage in subjects with multiple tooth agenesis. Its effectiveness under orthodontic loading has been demonstrated clinically and experimentally. This study investigates the deformation and stress on the bone and implant for different bite forces by three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) methods. A numerical simulation of deformation and...
